Read your response to a photo of the Sloss Furnaces northwest of Birmingham Alabama. My kinfolks lived in the Slyvan Springs, Mulga and Hoagtown areas. My Great Grandfather Walter Higgins, worked in the coal mines back in the day. When visiting the families there, always liked to view the "glow" in the sky from the furnace pouring pot. Was up that way about a year ago and noticed lots of the buildings were still standing but none being used. Wished I had taken photos of the glowing pot. Thanks for sharing the photos !

Hello Scott! Browsed tonight many of your galleries and I enjoyed so much. Fine photography. I wish my English would be better to say exactly what I feel! You have your very own and unique style! Loved your portraits, they all are true gems. Some of your family portraits took my breath away! Liked a lot of your titles of the images. Very creative. All pictures had excellent compositions and loved those many b&w captures. You have a great eye for photography for sure and one can see that you truly love what you do. Thank you for sharing your work! Best, Anitta

Thank you very much for your intervention in the forum on censorship. After three years posted on Pbase I can not believe that there is a Team that blocked three of my albums for a mannequin without clothing, and some girls photografed in bikinis on the Italian beaches, or on billboards. But in the United States girls at the beach still use the long underwear .....???? I am very angry ..... may have to find a Chinese site that hosts my photos without censorship ....???? Grazie molto Saluti e good photos Antonio
Sorry for my English

Thank you very much for your kind comments on my photo "Through the gate". Indeed, the new lens is not just better, it also makes me want to go out and take photos - the "go-out-and-shoot!" factor.
I have to say, I think your work is very unique, definitely a very interesting collection of images. Oh, and I love your B&W work, very inspirational!

Aside from my fiance, Jen is my best friend in all of the world. I am so blessed to have her in my life. She is just as amazing off of pbase as on. However, I am double blessed. For I am the youngest of three girls. Evelyn, is the last piece of our puzzle. It is a very special gift to be one of three sisters. We share a very special bond.

Hey Scott-I wanted to let you know that the pictures of Will, Sarah and John have meant so much to me over the last several weeks. You have captured each moment, good or bad, and allowed me to understand their struggle. You have done a great thing for your family.

Your tender pictures and words praising April are the way a relationship should work and remain. You are blessed, indeed. Thanks for keeping us up on Will. I'm looking through some of your shots for possible gifts for Mom and Dad. I'll get with you. Also -- do you schedule time? I'm got some pretty adorable kids I'd like to catch in their light.

post script: You've got me thinking about the point and shoot. I kind of miss my fujifilm because it really can be a pain to lug around the DSLR (though I always do it anyway). This weekend, I forgot to pack my extra battery and was forced to use the old camera by which I remembered fondly all the things I liked about it but was also painfully reminded of what I did not (like boot lag - GRRRRR!). Still, it's something to consider - another small P&S. Add it to the list!!

Throwing in my two cents on your wonderful collection. I really appreciate the thoughts you share in addition to the actual work. One could easily get lost for hours in these galleries - they are so personal it almost feels like snooping.
Kudos!

You asked me about the placed I've photographed, the one with the candles. I put an answer in the photo.http://www.pbase.com/georgechristakos/image/49991145
It's amazing that with really close shots, sometimes it's difficult to understand the subject of the photo. I do like this.

Scott, thanks for your comment on today's pad. The memorial is a "must see" if and when you are in Oklahoma City. This was my third visit and I am always moved by the fact that everyone treats the site with tremendous reverence, such as speaking in hushed tones, as if they are in church.

Hi Scott. Many thanks for leaving a comment on my gallery. Refreshing to have someone offer photographic suggestions like you did...rather than all glowing stuff. Improvement comes from friends who will share their experience. I agree about having a black background on the orchid photo. You have a wonderful gallery. Lots for me to study and learn from. Will be back many times.

Best regards from Vancouver Island,
Brian

Hey Scott: Yup, I'm alive...It seems like I've got lot of irons in the fire...1. I'm selling my Ford Expedition:
(too expensive to pay for, and gas:-12mpg) 2. The zoo and I are wrestling with a contract, so they can sell their library (mostly my pics) to a company that sells high end digital slide show equipment...We're still squabbling about the split, and I want it all legal, and I want control of my copyrights, as usual.. 3. I have a gallery run that's winding down, and I need to get my pictures out, and hung somewhere else,
4. I've just submitted an article with photos to a photo mag, On and on and on..I won't boree you with more stuff... So, hopefully, I may have time over the weekend to pick up my camera...Thanks for the concern!

Scott, thanks for your comment on the hazel.
Considering I was using the kit EF-S lens it is amazing it is as sharp as it is.
I find the Canon Macro 50mm lens is in a diffrent league though and would love to get the Canon 100mm macro.
I only use the EF-S lens as a last resort now.
The hazel does indeed look great in winter.
