i am a hongkonger and i must say yr photos are really touching...everytime u view the harbour or night view from the peak,it is a different world..feeling emotional, yet calm at the same time. It is just like the harbour is the whole world, but when you think you have the whole world you are feeling so small... i wonder if someone feel the same way as i do, haha

I FINALLY reached Hong Kong back in September and it was everything I hoped for! I regret I only got to spend four days there. In January 2008, I posted the a question here...'is it possible to be homesick for a place I've never been?' I can say now that answer is yes. It's been 4 months since I left Hong Kong and I very much miss it. I hope to return someday.

Hi! Fantastic pictures! I was in HK in April and it was beautiful, and I loved the HK people, who were very friendly and helpful. But the warm humidity made me melt when I went out, then the air conditioning made me freeze when I went in! I must go again, but next time NOT flying economy class!!! Loved the Big Buddha on Lantau Island and spectacular views from the cable car ride!

These pictures (although, new, remind me of why I always loved visiting Hong Kong when as a young U.S. Navy sailor in the 60’s and 70’s, I had met and loved a young lady by the name of Cecilia Andrade. Wow, Great shots ! Our family are frequent holiday visitors to HK, and i can say that these images captures the essence and spirit of this magical place. We are scheduled to visit again in december. I have recently picked up photography as a hobby, and i bought a Nikon D40 and a couple of lenses. I'm not going to replicate these shots, but i sure am inspired and challenged. Can't wait ...

Those are amazing shots of HK and it does bring out the best side of the city that never sleeps!!! It has been well over 20 years since I have been back to HK, hence, I am planning a trip next Dec. to Asia with HK being the first stop. I am looking forward to being able to take some photos of these amazing places as well!

I was in H.G. 1950,1951,1952,1953 Navy Destroyer and it has been in my heart all these years. I fell in love there (my first time) with a very fine young lady & she felt the same way about me. We were very young and she was very beautiful. I can see why she didn't won't to leave H.G. I think it is the most beautiful city in the world.

These are brilliant pics. I am originally from HK but grew up in the US and returned to work there for 7 years as an adult. I've had some of the best years of my life living there and met life long friends. What an awesome place. Since today is the 10 year anniversay of the handover, I am looking at these and really missing HK. Thanks for sharing HK through your eyes.

The big impact that Hongkong I said is niceiect place is the hill tops and mountains compare in Singapore they dont have. But Singapore for sure is more richer according to currency rate i based. Very proud indeed of the fact that I was born, brought up (under both the traditional Chinese culture and philosophy and the rather liberal and broad-minded western way), educated bi-lingually, had worked, got married and even gave birth to my son in this wonderful place called Hong Kong - our hometown! Even though I have acquired other nationality and no longer live in Hong Kong permanently, deep down in my heart, I still considered myself a "TRUE HONGKONG SOUL"! I lived in Hong Kong just before 'Franky' - he and myself went to St. George's (BFES) School. Wow, how things have changed. I hope the 'old cadre' allow the folks of HK continued freedom to use their talents to prosper and flourish. The waterfront lights were an attraction even back in the 1950s, but things are more spectacular now!

yea it's a fantastic city, but unfortunately the government is unwilling to help us keep it that way. if you've been here and think the pollution is bad, or you'd like to see temple street and other very culturally "hong kong" places not mowed down to become a highway, please send the tourism board an email or sth to tell them how much you'd like to see more efforts put into preserving hongkong's greatness! they dont really like listening to us locals cos we dont "bring in the money"...

As an airline pilot I flew into HKG at least 5 times every month from 1978-1999. Such a dynamic, exciting and worldly center of commerce, tourism and productivity. I've watched it grow, prosper and change hands. Now that I'm retired, I plan to go stay awhile and really take in the sights and sounds of Hong Kong. This great metropolis has been and will always be in my heart.

Great photos. How about showing more daytime pictures without the lights. I left Hong Kong to Los Angeles forty years ago, been back a couple of times and loving it. I've been getting to know Hong Kong again the last few years online especially via radio and television at http://www.rthk.org.hk/ I am planning to retire in Hong Kong (my hometown), if I can live that long. The only criticism I have is the comment you posted from Kung Fu gee(k), dated 01-Feb-2006, it is doing a lot of damage to your webpage. Ask any Cantonese speaking friends of yours, they will advice you to remove it immediately.

I visited hong kong and it is a nice east/west mix city but recently the smog is really a problem... hope the mainland China government can do something within the mainland... so that the polluted air won't get blown to HongKong...... still... it's not sooo bad that could kill you.. it's really worth visiting Hong Kong...

The photos are great but sadly they don't reflect the highly polluted reality. I have visited HK twice & really enjoyed it (& would recommend anyone to visit) but there is a permenant smog of pollutants over the city. I hope the Chinese government won't destroy the economy & East/West culture mix that makes HK so special.

I think you can live there if you have a working visa or something.... lot of western people or people from other places live in hong kong for a long time with no problems... some of them are hong kong citizen already and some of them are working there... so... you can go visit some hong kong governments websites and find out... english version is available... hope i did give you some ideas...

I am Hong Kong people, i love this modern Hong Kong very much since she is the Asia 's World City. And she is an International Metropolitan which is extremely famous throughout the world indeed. Perhaps for those who have not been to Hong Kong do not really know the wonderful, majestic and attractive scene and the exclusive aspect of Hong Kong. In my opinion, notwithstanding Hong Kong is too small, she is beautiful extraordinarily. Some of my friends from America are touched profoundly with the night scene of Hong Kong after appreciating the pictures about promoting the tourism of Hong Kong. On the other hand, I think that Hong Kong is the glory of China ,and We ! Hong Kong people should love Hong Kong deeply from our heart indeed. What's more, we should do something meaningful which can contribute to this beautiful World Class City ! Hello, i am Gabrijel from Trieste, Italy. Congratulations for the pics, they are great, expecially the ones of Kowloon. Actually i think Central is a little bit sad since there are really too many modern buildings, everything is extremely clean, but..there are really few people on the streets..nothing to do with Nathan road or Tsim Sha Tsui. I prefer the typical chinese noise of the traditional markets. Good luck to you, take many pics of Mainland China because it's reaaly huge and the things too see never end. Bye

I fell in love with HK the very moment I 1st stepped into this beautiful city ! Her airport is simply as good as Sg's ! There are many pretty sights around and countless number of delicious food stalls and shopping areas, as well as places of interest like the Peak, Ocean park, Stanley St, Mongkok, Temple Street, Wong Tai Sin Temple, Central etc etc...the list is endless.... I went back to HK in March / April 2005, haven't been back in a while since i live in Canada and the pics are exactly what I experienced. Many things have changed in HK (for the better) the food, transportations, atmopshere and most importantly the victoria harbour etc. even if these things keep changing and improving but my soul for the place never change. i do agree with Tamka .i miss HK everyday since i came back to Canada and i have to compliant how boring Canada is. I would like to answer the Q raised by Laie Boy. HK Disney is on Lantua Isaland. It is SOOOO convenient to get around in HK. Disney can be accessed from ANYWhere in HK. YOu can take the MTR train from the HK International Airport to the Disney. YOu can go downtown from the airport of Disney by train or bus or mini bus or Taxi. HOng Kong welcomes you.

I don't know how to mention it exactly, but they just lack of a point to bring out what you want to say inside the photos, for example, the "Approaching MTR". How beautiful. No-one should ever say that to create beauty is unjustified. My best friend is from Hong Kong and I am grateful of her forever for opening my eyes to the world at large. Even the most pitiful things have a certain beauty and if more people saw and appreciated the beauty in the world around them, regardless of how altered or how raw and untouched, this world would not be in the sad state that it is in. Touching the life of another is it's own blessing. And obviously you touch the emotions of many through your work. I always thought that it would be nice to see the world, but because of the web, many will get to see it that might never have done so. Shame for those who think only of themselves. Keep up the great work.

These photos are beautiful. Most of these are taken during late night hours when the city is asleep. It's deceiving somehow, it does not show the busy, crowded streets in daylight hours. I used to be a HK native. If I show these to my friends who have never been to HK, they will see a totally different world once they step out of the airport.

Pros like you are welcome to photograph "Champion" trees in HK like the ficus microcarpa Chinese Banyon. Amateur pics can been seen from about 500 different forest trails in Hong Kong by using Google to search David Liu Walking In Hong Kong. They show the trees.

whenever i feel lost i'd visit ur page... and everytime i visit it'd bring tears to my eyes... i miss HK so much >.< thanx for the memories ^^ and nice pics ^^ i've been to the exact same places as you have... but never can i take pics that look so artistic and beautiful =) would you be taking some pictures that're not at night? HK at night is definitely beautiful, but in the day, there's a whole new world, just as beautiful and intriguing... especially in the older areas, although not as much lights and activity, there's a traditional beauty that if you don't capture it on film now, it may not be there soon... =/

You're such a talented photographer, it is a shame that you're only taking pictures of Hong Kong; don't get it wrong this isn't meant to diminish the beauty of HK, which you demonstrated very elegantly through your pictures. Very colorful and exhilarating photos! They make a statement of Hong Kong the magnificent icon...Hong Kong the edifice...Hong Kong the great work...Hong Kong the MONUMENT. On this basis, they work quite well and deliver their message clearly and without complication. Ah, but what I miss seeing is probably what you see every day. The people...the confusion...the individual images of life. I wish I could see another gallery...sort of a counterpoint to this...of the LIFE of Hong Kong...the people...the animals...all those things which make a city LIVE not just exist. I like your gallery...but it is incomplete. You have a good eye...train it on those things which your vision misses. You have used a telescope...now use the microscope. wowow, guess what, i left hongkong when i was 11 and i thought my life is going to be spent outside hongkong for the rest of my life, because of how i have settled down in an other country. I didn't visit hk for 5 years, last month i went back, realise hk changed so much, i like it more than before. All my families member is in hongkong and i realised that there is where i really belong. All these all small things, has added up into a big picture in my head. I will come back soon!! It makes me have a very determine mind to finish off my work in new zealand and hurry go back to my home town. I miss all these views and people there. Everyday I look at your pictures. I have lived in Canada for 10 years and I long to return to HK. Your pictures were a driving force to push me to return to HK! Excellent photography but unfortunately the essence of Hong Kong has been transformed from the Pearl of the Orient to just another modern Megalopolis with very little of its original character & Oriental flavor left today, such as the shot with multi-neon signs. Is this the price of progress?

Haha. Your pics attracted visitors to Hong Kong!! The pics are beautiful. They capture the unique characteristics of Hong Kong very well. Looking at them makes me feel homesick. Although Shanghai also have a lot of beautiful scenes at night, such as the Bund, I think Hong Kong's night scene with Victoria Harbour is even better. Great pics!! :D

the photos are very nice, but they appear in the way that 'hongkong' is being manipulated under the camera, seemed not quite realistic. it seems that the photographer wants to display the image of hk in a certain 'idealistic' way, under the effect of particular light effect or techniques. perhaps adding in your personal feelings in your work would be a good try for next time
