St Goarshausen from the St Goar promenade. Burg Katz, which dates from 1393, is in the background above the town. In a succession of disputes on heritage, Katz Castle was besieged, demolished and rebuilt several times. Napoleon finally blew up Katz Castle in 1806. In 1896 it was reconstructed as close as possible to the original design. Since 1989 it has been private property.
