The multifunctional and open Ghent City Pavilion is constructed of glass, wood and concrete, and an example of recent contemporary architecture, being completed in 2012. It is subject to controversy as to whether it blends in, or otherwise, with its historic immediate surroundings.
The pavilion can accommodate concerts and markets, and has a semi-underground café on the lower level which can cater for 300 people.
