Boat Moorings

Konstanz - Germany

Behind on the left is the Imperia statue, the newest Konstanz landmark erected in 1993. It is 30 foot tall and slowly rotates once every 4 minutes. It ironically commemorates the Council of Constance that took place between 1414 and 1418. Imperia was a beautiful courtesan of the time, and she is depicted holding two men on her hands. The two men represent Pope Martin V who was elected during the Council, and Emperor Sigismund, the king who called the council. Both are naked except for their crowns.
