October 20

Unexpected

After a recent heatwave we had two days of cool weather and last night and this morning rain.
I was surprised to find these two (plus visitor) in our front yard this morning.

P.S. My friend Ulli from Germany informed me that these Mushrooms are edible. Too late, our gardener them over with a lawnmower this morning.

Pretty unusual for San Diego, I'd guess. And you had a real treat right in your yard. Excellent catch before the mower. V

Fine capture Walter! It's a Macrolepiota species and edible indeed. You can bake them like a schnitzel V
Slugs are fond of most mushrooms. My last mushroom image is a Macrolepiota species also:http://www.pbase.com/calopteryx/image/166429546

At least the slug got a meal before the mower.
Gill Kopy21-Oct-2017 01:14
They look like what we call puff balls here and are great cut into cubes and added to soups and other dishes. Neat shot V

like albino knish pastries...can't fault the slug for testing the taste...odd how mushrooms/fungi pop up and then quickly disappear...good you are on the alert here..
