Christmas In Santa Fe and New Mexico

Christmas in Santa Fe and throughout New Mexico is a magical time of year. This is an ongoing gallery of Christmas in Santa Fe and other locations in New Mexico. On Christmas Eve, Santa Fe's eastside is ablaze with bonfires and farolitos. Visitors from around the world come to Santa Fe to partake in this festive holiday season. The photos of the Christmas decorations are courtesy of Susan Weber, of Susan's Christmas Shop. Besides the Christmas Eve farolito walk on Canyon Road there are many other activities one can enjoy throughout the holiday season. A traditional New Mexican play called "Los Pastores" (The Shepherd's Play) has taken place since colonial times. Since 1972 the community of Belen has been performing "La Gran Pastorela de Belen". Also, every year the First Baptist Church in Santa Fe holds their living nativity. Another Christmas treat is the annual performance of Gustave Baumann's marionettes at the New Mexico Museum of Art.
