Great photos of Nagchu. I am helping a `Tibetan academic convert her phd thesis into a book. She has completed a case study of Da, a nomad settlement close to Nagchu. What is `the name of the settlement in your photo.

Would you allow use of your photos in a book?

I've just returned from Nepal (Tsum Valley & Manaslu) & was looking for info on the Humla Simikot area when I found your site. Easily spent over an hour looking at your excellent photos. I've spent about 5 years traveling the world & it looks like you have done the same. I went to Dali as it opened up in 1984. Got arrested trying to hitch to Lijiang but ended up spending a month around Dali. I loved your photos of the places in Yunnan I was not allowed to see. Everything was closed back then. You have a great eye & figured out all the best places to travel. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Great pictures! I appreciate the fact that you have chosen to keep away from commenting on the political and social conditions of the places you have visited and have instead focussed on photographing their natural and architectural heritage. On the other hand, I think your viewers would greatly benefit if you had brief description of the location along with some advice on how to reach them.

Otherwise, congratulations on terrific pictures!

Mathew, I liked all your pictures especially of Himalayas, myself being from the region. Once or twice a year I go on treks especially in HP and Garhwal. I love mountains and lakes very much. I wish you'd have given slightly more description of the pictures. Nevertheless, they are simply marvelous.

Utterly gorgeous (your Tibet gallery), Matthew, and I'm a photographer. I have been there twice in fall and realize now what I am missing by not going in spring. I am going to trek Kailash in September (2009) and am looking forward to it through your photos.

Your photos look as though they are just shot with a polarizing filter without manipulation in Photoshop; is this correct? If so, good for you.

Hi Matthew, I love the photos you took in Tibet and I'm planning to visit there on coming July. Are you visit Tibet star from Yunnan? Since I will visit Lijiang and Shangri-la first and then head to Lhasa by land. I just following what the Lonely planet suggestion: Lijiang>>>Zhongdian>>>Deqin>>>Pomda>>>Rawok-Tso>>>Namche Barwa>>>Lamaling Temple>>>Draksum-Tso>>>Lhasa.
Any suggestion??
By the way, what recommendation about photograhy in Tibet? I'm wondering is that better to use Canon G9 rather than take heavy equipment to there. Thanks for your help.

Wonderful photography Matthew, and invaluable for me in researching my destinations for my up-and-coming trip to Thailand and Cambodia.

Great pictures. I love HP and Lahaul in particular. Your photo of the Miyar valley really took me back to a 4 day up and back hike from Udiapur many years ago. I would love to hear about how far up you went and if you crossed over to Zanskar. Local "maps" indicate many "passes" between side nalas off the Chenab. Steep country...a great place to explore.

I have just seen your pictures of the Manali and Parbati River areas. I climbed in the Tos Glacier area and spent some weeks renting a room in the apple orchards about 100m from Duff Dunbar twenty years ago. I had forgotten how truely beautiful that part of the world is. Seeing your vibrant pictures makes me ache to go back again.
Herve Blandin18-May-2006 02:22
Your galleries are a real pleasure, lots of diversity from every place, with people, landscapes, sights, all really well photographed. I must admit I have not looked them all, but just a matter of time.

Hi Matthew,
I stumbled upon your galleries as I was browsing Philippines photos. You have an amazing collection of pictures from SE Asia. I'll have to spend more time looking at them. Thanks for sharing your beautiful images of places that I doubt I'll ever see!
Ayoob 27-Jan-2006 00:28

Great pictures and thanks for sharing them. You should think about writing a book to share your experiences on your trip.

thanks again.

Your pictures are excellent. I spent apx 3 years traveling Asia and your images brought back many memories. I especially liked the photos from Ladakh and Zanskar. I went there in 1982 but someone stole 20 rolls of film covering that period and a walk around Annapurna. Anyway, thanks for putting the shots up. It gave me an hour of pleasure.
Guest 01-Sep-2003 21:19
very nice
Guest 22-Aug-2003 11:57
Hi Matthew,

Your galleries look great. It will be really interesting to see what you come up with with your new Digital. Maybe your usual composition will change...and it will give you
fresh angles. One good thing is that now you can experiment more knowing you won't be wasting film. I know you are due to go on another trip so it will be great to see your new pix.
love anita

Hi Matthew. I looked at Vietnam and Lombok and left comments there, but I wanted to say it looks as though there is lots more to see in your galleries. I'll be back. thanks for the galleries. Denise
Matt Dickson 08-Jul-2003 20:30
I enjoyed your pictures of SE Asia, but it seems as though you only took pictures at the 'tourist' type locations. I realize that traveling is expensive and you don't have all the time in the world, but on your next trip try the back alleys and places tourists don't go. It's an entirely different world. I lived in Cambodia for a year doing humanitarian aid, but didn't bring my nice camera...I would appreciate seeing some quality photos of the side of SE Asia tourists don't see...
Sheila Smart13-May-2003 02:17
Great images in all your galleries, Matthew. Well done. I am much travelled too and wished I had a DSLR when I was in India back in the 70s and 80s. My only comment on your galleries is that they would look far better on a non-black background. May I suggest you check out Slug's CSS stylesheets - they are 100% better than the basic black.
