Kawa'u

Hawaiian holly. This is one of the most common understory trees in both wet and mesic forests. Begins as a many-leaved vertical stalk, and can eventually grow into a moderately large tree. Thick, leathery dark green leaves. Fruits and flowers abundantly, and some birds such as 'oma'o and red-billed leiothrix are particularly drawn to its fruit.
