Pueo

The pueo is the hawaiian owl. It is actually a variety of the common short-eared owl. The easiest place to see the pueo is morning or early evening in the pastures along the Mauna Kea Access Road, from Saddle Road up to the edge of Mauna Kea State Forest Reserve, and also along Keanakolu Road. They are often hunting near the Humuula Sheep Station, and frequently perch on the fence posts.
