Brian,

I was looking at the latest Sierra Club 'Schedule of Activities' booklet and saw an upcoming hike to Cottonwood Lakes. Not knowing anything about Cottonwood Lakes I went to google. Next thing I know I'm looking at some pictures of yours documenting that hike with a friend of yours. As I was browsing the pictures I said to myself 'Well this guy knows how to take photos as well.' After some more searching I found this website. Let me tell you, I have looked at thousands and thousands of images from beginners to professional photographers and yours are right up there with the very best in the world! Being a landscape photographer myself I know what I'm talking about. I have to ask ... is photography your business? If not, it sure should be!

I would love to talk to you about your photography someday. Just one photographer to another kinda thing. Your work is very inspriring!

Brian...
Its wonderful to see the photo's you've compiled. You and I have a long backpacking history together that goes "way back"... in fact, we go "all the way back", my earliest childhood memory is the day Mom brought you home from the hospital a day after you were born. Seems your life has been in fruition ever since. Keep up the good work !

Do you sell your prints? I especially enjoy the moonrise image of Cathedral Rock. My wife and I hiked a portion of the elevation, but my photography cannot compare to yours.

I'm a pro photographer and have to admit to spending way too many hours looking at other people's work on the internet. Stumbled into your galleries and had to comment that of all the other stuff I've ever seen yours is in a league of its own. We share the same insatiable love of nature. The White Desert shots are unreal.

Thanks so much for offering this wonderful look into the natural world of your region. I'll be sure to visit often. It's going to take me awhile to take it all in.

Hi Brian, I have enjoyed your gallery very much. While I've been to the south-west numerous times, it has never been in winter, but we are headed there now in our motorhome and plan to spend the winter moving around northern AZ and southern UT. I've never done some of the slot canyons in the area, but hope to do so this trip. Congratulations on your excellent work. Check my stuff athttp://www.pbase.com/sparker1.

Brian,

I found your photos by accident. A very pleasant surprise. As an amateur photographer whose art photos as my husband calls them are often of clouds, landscapes and even pebbles or shells - I was in awe of your artwork. What kind of cameras are you using? I have several but often find my simples and even the occasional disposable work very well.
Thanks for sharing your work with all of us.

Hi Brian, I have thoroughly enjoyed viewing your galleries the past couple days. You have captured many of the areas that I love to visit (though not nearly enough Colorado), and with a style I truly appreciate and want to emulate to some extent. I plan to visit Northern arizona and Southern Utah this winter, as we have never seen those areas with snow. Plans are to arrive in Sedona in early Feb and tour for a couple months, moving to Lake Powell, Kanab, Zion, Bryce, Monument Valley, etc, partly dependent on the weather. I wonder if you have any advice for me in this effort. Thanks so much for creating such a beautiful gallery.

Hi Brian,

i came across your galleries when i wa searching for some photos of The Wave, as i am planning to come to the States next year, and this is a location i have heard so much about, and after having browsed through your images, it makes me want to come over and see it for myself even more now. I think some of your images are absolutely stunning, you obviously have a very good eye, and i was very impressed of the photos you took on your last trip to the wave, after the rain, for me, you have done a very good series of creative work, and i thought you had made very good use of the shadows, and you have dramatically cropped some of the images to add more impact.

I would also like to congratulate you on you Mono Lake series, another set of outstanding images (another place i have added to my itinary). i am sure i will be returning from time to time to see your images, as they are a good source of inspiration.

Keep up the good work...

Derek

PS: I am sure you had some images of Death Valley i saw recently, but they seem to have gone, will you be re-uploading them soon

Yet again I've traveled vicariously through your images and reluctantly leave with a lingering and even poetic emotion of your experiences. Now I want to see more, and find myself scheming myriad ways to disappear into these places where time moves slower and power lurks in the rocks and light.

Hi! I received your message in one of my galleries and I thank you for that. Most of the time I don't have that much time to visit and look around other peoples galleries but once I entered the front page of you site I knew that I had to find out what your galleries could offer. And they offered so much! You live in such a beautiful place and I can't even express how well you have captured the beauty of that massive canyon. I went through all of you galleries and I was deeply impressed by your work. I always take nice words in my guestbook as a huge compliment, but when they come from a photographer as tallented as you it gives those words a certain 'lift'. I wish that sometime in the future I will achieve the same level in photography as you already have so that I also could make people realise how gorgeous this planet of ours really is! Keep on shooting and posting those impressive pictures of yours. I will continue my journey through your pictures and add you to my list of favourite artists. -Lasse from Finland-

Hi Bri,
Just checked out your galleries for the first time and was really impressed. I recently entered the world of digital photography with the purchase of a Panasonic DMC FZ-10 ("floozie," for short), which I love. I'm considering using PBase to host some images I captured last week while backpacking in the Escalante Grand Staircase National Monument. Keep up the good work.

p.s.: are you still interested in buying a manual Canon FTB for your collection? I happen to have a vintage model taking up space in my closet... ;-)

Brian,
Thanks for the kind comments on my son's photo of Oak Creek & my Havasupai gallery. It looks like we have visited many of the same beautiful places in the Southwest. Keep up the good work. Your pictures show a lot of effort and talent and I look forward to seeing more.

Hallo Bria,

To begin: I find your pictures of outstanding quality. The way you look at colours, contrast, compositions, details etcetera make them all very attractive. But beside this; I really enjoy the comments which you add to all these pictures. It shows the mind of a man who hunts -almost literally- for preys and these preys when captured are the best possible shots. The comments also give insight to those who want to lerarn from you and that's a lot for persons like me. Thank you for that.

hi Brian, I came to leave a message thanking you for your kind comment at my own gallery and what a treat to view your own lovely images. I just ordered a G2 myself, thinking it would be a good camera for the macro capabilities and after viewing your beautiful photos I'm really excited! I've bookmarked your galleries to return again, you have some outstanding images here. :)

Brian - I enjoy looking through artist’s galleries and picking my favorite. Going through you new work I couldn't choose. How could I choose only one? Then I opened "Stream Ice Detail". What a great photo. I hope you have this one hanging on your wall. - john

Roth,

Depending on the complexity of the stitching job, I either use PanaVue
ImageAssembler, or PanoTools. If it is rather straightfoward, I use
PanaVue. If I'm using a lens with a lot of distortion, I have to use
PanoTools, which takes more time, but always delivers great results...

Thanks for asking,

Brian

Nice photos Brian. I'm wondering what panoramic program you use. Thanks, Roth

Brian,

Thanks for your compliments on my gallery. It's always an honor to receive compliments from anyone. But after seeing your galleries it's humbling to receive compliments from you. I don't even know where to begin to compliment your galleries. They are truly amazing. I will be putting up some of my own southwest pics up soon but after seeing yours they will certainly pale in comparison. Keep up the shooting!

Hi Brian. Thanks for visiting my gallery. I've re-scanned some of them and I think they look even better (especially printed).

Tim,
Most all of my images are nudged a bit with Photoshop, to increase the contrast and saturation. As an alternative, if I shoot RAW, I'll increase saturation
and contrast during the conversion and this seems to get the desired results. In my
Zion Narrows, and a few other photographs, I've used a technique to add a kind
of 'dreamy' effect (where a duplicate layer is made, blurred, and combined to the
original with the 'multiply' attribute). This has the effect of intensifying the
colors and adding a fog-like blur to some degree. If I'm not careful, I can use
this technique too much as it can be quite pleasing! I also crop almost all of my
images also to optimize the composition. That's about 98% of my post-processing...if
you have any other questions, please let me know!

Brian,
Thank you very much for the compliment on my image. This photography stuff is great isn't it? Your images are beautiful. I was curious as to what you do, if anything, for post processing work.
Again, your work is great!!

Wonderful galleries Brian, I'm pleased to see you are extracting the potential of the G2 which is a powerful creative tool . I have the G3 (G2 stolen ) and it's size and form makes it fantastic as a travel camera - less intrusive and more flexible than many of the larger 'prosumer' and professional digital cameras.
