New Reality (3-21-20)

Leave it on the Porch.

If lucky, "contactless" grocery delivery is available for many who now don't want the risk of going into a grocery store during these difficult times: https://www.supermarketnews.com/online-retail/coronavirus-fears-grow-delivery-operators-offer-contactless-options

Just a week ago, I would have never considered using something like this. Now, it's a blessing.

With store hours being shortened & with people in panic buying mode, grocery stores here are now more crowded than ever. That makes "social distancing" extremely difficult. Many stores have set aside one hour for only those who are 60 or older. However, it seems as if a lot of these older people are using that special time in the store as time to socialize with each other. Friendly hugs and large groups congregating together, to discuss grandkids & life in general, seems to be far more common than trying to keep apart. It's quite odd & counter productive.

US COVID News
Updated: March 22, 2020, 06:30 GMT

26,892 total cases of COVID-19
2,685 new cases in 24 hours

348 American deaths

Perhaps it really is time for more people (of all ages) to take the advice of "Shelter in Place" and "Social Distancing" seriously: both for their own welfare and for the welfare of our World. We are!!! My husband is also over 60. But even if he weren't, we'd still be doing what we currently are doing for ourselves, our country and our fellow humans: https://www.highoctaneharley.com/social-distancing/

PS No toilet paper in this grocery delivery. Toilet paper just isn't available anywhere!!! I wonder how long it will be before those, who didn't hoard, finally run out. Hope we all don't have to find out. Times are stressful enough.

I, too have been using Instacart for groceries and they leave the bags on the stoop outside the door.

Much the same here in Melbourne, Australia. However, shopping for food and going our for exercise are allowed as part of our government response to COVID. It is a very new world but the planet is happier.

I just took delivery of my groceries this morning. The driver wheeled the shopping up to my door in baskets, I unload the bags and have a little at at about 13 feet away from the driver. I finish and the driver waits till I close my front door. I am wearing blue rubber gloves throughout till all the shopping is put away. Then wash hands thoroughly and wipe down any surfaces where any individual items where on, this also includes cupboard handles. Wash hands again and again...we have just started to get toilet roll again and there are no restrictions on items of food anymore, thankfully.

Yup, everyone is on the same page. Glad there are alternatives cropping up to help folks deal with these extraordinary times.

We have a grocery delivery coming today. First time. I think we will leave everything out except any real perishables, though the high for today and tomorrow is only 40º. Stay safe and well.

Good idea, and certainly safer than going to the grocery store, which I wasn't so concerned about until recently.
