Above is one of many guns found at/or near Union Station after the deadly Chiefs Rally shooting. As of 2-20, two teens and two adults have been arrested. One adult (one who fired the fatal shoot that killed Elizabeth Galvan) got annoyed when he felt that a stranger was giving him "a funny look". This led to both of them (and numerous strangers around them) all drawing their guns and just shooting. Even more arrests are expected to eventually follow: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/it-s-been-almost-a-week-since-fatal-kansas-city-mass-shooting-here-are-the-key-details/ar-BB1iBNHB
When asked today about changing local gun control laws, Gov. Parson said that local leaders all bear responsibility for what is happening in Missouri relating to gun violence. Not lack gun laws.
Mike Parson also obviously seems to feel that there are more important issues to deal with than gun violence within the state. Dismissing the shooting at Union Station as a local problem, he announced today that he is sending up to 200 Missouri National Guard members and 22 State Highway Patrol troopers to the Texas border with Mexico. The Republican governor is requesting roughly $2.3 million of Missouri taxpayer money to foot the bill for the deployment. The announcement comes as Republicans across the country have sought to draw attention to the U.S.-Mexico border ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
Meanwhile, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office (local) has organized counseling services for those in the community who need it: “The shootings at Union Station following the Kansas City Chief’s victory parade on Wednesday marred a beautiful celebration,” the prosecutor’s office said in a news release. “These horrible events can create deep emotional trauma for persons involved or persons who witnessed the violence. Family members can also be greatly impacted."
Time is now proving that far more than those at Union Station at the time of the shooting have been traumatized by the shooting. More communities in the Metro are now also offering trauma counseling to help anyone who has been negatively affected; even if you were just watching the events unfold live on local TV.
