To answer to S5Pro. In certain things you are right, but, do you really think that cameras have progressed so much in picture quality or rendering. I think more that internal to camera software does the game today, not the capture device. We have made one step in direction of dynamic range increase and that's only the use of full size chips with high pixel counts and 14 bits image capture until now. No apsc sized chip can compete with S5 capture device and only 24 mpix count exmor sensors of the A900 and D3X come close to it. A 12 mpix chip of a D3 or D700 come close but it is still not the same as the Fuji. The Fuji rendering is unique and as you said, many pictures shown here are out of camera jpg shots or shots made without the dynamic enhancement that this camera allows. I have worked on many raw formats until now but none of them allows such wide possibilities as a raf from the S-Pro series. When I look today a shot just out of any of Nikon's common cameras, starting by the D70 up to the D700, I do not see so much difference in all of them, Nikon has his rendering style and colors and most shots you find online of Nikon cameras are just looking Nikon like despite you are able to rectify this in a raw rework with ease. I use my S5 for just anything and, I never shoot jpg anyway. No need for a dslr if your goal is to do jpg tourist shots. Concerning sharpness, I never had any Nikon doing sharp shots with factory default settings. On the other side, sharp shots run the risk of artifacts and halos one really doesn't needs.

Having spent many hours viewing the S5PRO galleries I have been left dissapointed for a number of reasons: It would appear that many of the photographs are submitted without any manipulation in any way. This gives a poor impression of what the S5PRO can achieve. Many of the images are totally transformed with a simple adjustment to the contrast/brightness. The S5 would also appear unable to photograph anything other than family snaps and weddings. If S5 owners feel that they cannot take a landscape/sports/urban shot why buy the S5 in the first place?. Please dont say that the S5 is a one subject camera, remember the cameras that photographers used to use for any subject in all weathers?. Large format cameras, one shot film, bulb flash, no meter, no autofocus. I have the S5 and used to have the S2, both of them excellent cameras, but I am not blind to the fact that the S5 by todays standards lags behind regarding pixel count, apparent sharpness and speed of use. Also many of the late 2008/09 cameras are catching up the S5 with regard to dynamic range, so what do the S5 owners do?, they buy a D700 or a 50D. In other words they feel that the S5 can no longer compete. This is not a criticism as I totally understand why they would buy another manufacturers camera, I am in the same position myself. I would buy the S6 but it does not exist so what do you do? I love viewing all images from any camera on PBASE, but something that really annoys me is when I view the first image in someones gallery thinking that I am going to view S5 images and then find that I am now viewing D3 images. Please keep images from different cameras apart. Come on Fuji let us know what your are doing. Bring out the S6 or stick to compacts and let S5 owners know where they stand.

I had never imagined there was something that could make a better shot then my Nikon D200. Since I ow the Fuji S5 and I have seen what picture it does, looking the rendering and the color dynamic, my D200 just is in my case and doesn't moves quite often anymore.
I was looking for a bit of time for a camera that makes photos and not digital drawing and painting like most do. Never my pictures where so close to film and I must say ; no regret, it will take a long time for me to go full frame if ever I do. I see really no valuable reason to change ....

I got S5Pro as a back up to my Nikon D200. But I am very very satisfied with the camera espesially due to the skin tone / color and the dynamic range. Now, the Nikon D200 has became the back up body during my wedding assignments.

I would so much like to know the difference between an idiot and a semi idiot.
To define cameras is simple: Pro bodies are those that 'can't much, are extra fast shooting to fit all needs, are solid as a rock and super expensive. Semi Pro or consumer cameras are those that contain all a pro camera has and a lot more, can do more and can do it better and are fitted in a simple lighter and better looking body. So, in exception to do a lot of computer work, to have an expensive piece solid as a rock, there is really no need to buy a Pro camera.
So, hope now this stupid listing will stop on all camera pages.

OK, first off, there is no such thing as Pro and Semi-Pro. It is the same as Drunk and Semi-Drunk, Pregnant and Semi-Pregnant....etc. I have included "Flagship" because I have found that 90% of all professional art, wedding, portrait and photo-journalism work can be done with the "professional" level cameras. The "flagship" cameras have the little extra added pop that is needed for your commercial/magazine based work. I think that many people think that commercial photography is the only and majority photographic profession where in reality is only about 20% of all professional photographers.

The list should read as such:

Flagship Professional Digital SLR Cameras
1. Nikon D3
2. Nikon D2Xs
3. Canon 1Ds Mark 3
4. Canon 1D Mark 3

Top Professional Digital SLR Cameras
1. Nikon D700

7. Nikon D80
8. Pentax K10D

Ahim, We used the S2 and S3 for years and love the images but have been hampered by slow write times, and a long interval between taking the shot and getting it on the viewfinder. So far, the S5 is much faster than the S3. It's no speed demon, but it's a real improvement over the S3.
Guest 05-Jul-2007 00:26
I am using S3pro, the contrast was too strong and the buffering downloading time was too slow. How about the s5pro, is there any improvements?

I'm not rich enough to buy this model but I always dream to have it. This is the greatest digital camera in the world I know.

Ordered mine and paid in full. I have alot of faith in the arrival of this camera.Look at thes efeatures. Forthose of us who love the S2 & S3, this is what we have been waiting for!

1-If you want more body, you can buy the Nikon MB-200 grip and attach it under the Fujifilm S5 Pro. Only Fuji vbatteries will work.
2-Unique system consists of 12 million paired photodiodes - 6.17 million 'large' S photo diodes and 6.17 million 'small' R photo diodes.
3-Buffer of approximately 288MB contributes a lot to a speed of 3 fps, you can shoot about 20 RAW format pictures.
4- Face detection is part of Fujifilm's Real Photo Technology.
5-Fujifilm S5 Pro allows you to set the dynamic range in more refined steps. Via the record menu, the D-Range has a series running from 100% (STD) to 130%, 170%, 230% (W1), 300% to 400% (W2).
6-The Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro has newly developed noise reduction and it is striking how little noise there is with high ISO pictures such as the 3200 ISO setting.

The only thing missing is compressed raw files and it would be nearly a perfect camera!
