Not a great lens at all for portraits and close-ups, DOF etc., The bokeh exhibited is the most disgusting looking I've ever seen. Dig out some portraits on pbase, you can't miss what I'm talking about. The Sigma 18-125mm has far superior bokeh. The Canon & Nikon versions of the 18-200mm lens are both FAR superior quality. The Sigma version sucks by comparison.

I use this lens, but have found that by using manual focusing I can get a little more sharpness in the 150 to 200mm range. Over all a great lens for the price. I have just replaced my Sigma SD 14 with a custom nikon lens mount, and am now using manual focus nikon lenses for lower light work.

Hi just an update. When I said it wasn't the best for indoor I meant compared to my old 2.8 24-70. I have, however after using this for a month I have to say this is much better than I thought. I would buy this again in a second and would reccomend this to anyone.

Had mine for a week and I love it. It isn't the best for indoor however with a strong flash it works well. This is one of the best lenses I have used for a carry around lens. Give it a try.

I'm in desperate need of help while selecting between this lens (with OS) and the Nikon 18-200 VR, which needs a bitt less light at full tele than the Sigma. Have you tried both and could help me? It should be fitted to a D50, and later to a D80.

I just got mine and I'm very pleased with the first images I've taken:

I purchased this lens in July '07. At first I was not very happy with it and seriously considered returning it. I have been mostly using a Canon EF 28-300mm F3.5-5.6 L IS USM on my 5D and the Sigma lens only fits my 10D. So it took awhile to get used to using the older camera with the Sigma lens. And the Sigma lens is not really in the same class as the Canon L lens. After toting the Canon L lens around the US and Europe for the past year though, I wanted to try a lighter configuration. Anyway, after some practice with it, I think my results have improved dramatically. Keeping in mind that this is an inexpensive all around lens, and you can not expect perfect results from an all around lens in any price range, I'm pretty happy with it. The benefits are: 1) it is small and travels well, I don't have to pack an extra bag just for camera equipment, 2) it is lightweight and doesn't wear you out during a full day of shooting, and 3) it doesn't attract as much attention as the big white Canon L lenses. The OS works very well, although not as well as the Canon IS function. The AF is a bit slower than L lenses, but not bad. The 6.3 apeture on the long end of the lens results in slightly dark images at full zoom, but I have found that photoshop curves easily corrects this most of the time. I know a lot of photogs are critical of those of us that like to use an all around lens, but if you are looking for this type of lens, then I feel comfortable recommending it. You should check out these galleries which show my progression with this lens as I learned how to use it:

I have heard this lens with OS has been released only for Canon. Nikon mount still missing. Was it better than Nikkor 18-200 VR many people, including myself, would run for it.

I think someone or a few here at PBase mistakenly put this lens in his/their galleries and got so many page views because of many photographers got interested with this lens because of the OS when in fact the lens was only released very recently (and not as early as Nov 2006 as indicated some galleries). So be careful in looking at the galleries at PBase and identifying which images really belong to the 'real' Sigma 18-200mm OS lens.

Is this lens out on the market yet? It feels more like a rumour than a complete product... =/

I currently have an 18-125mm Sigma and wouldn't mind upgrading to this (given the focal length and image stabilization).

Is this model out yet?
