Plenty of candidates. Could have been a crow or blue jay. Or Rocky Raccoon.
I was concerned that my crop might have made the egg too large. I liked the surface texture, all the little shards, and the mulch. Are all eggs white on the inside?
Nice find, better capture. Good use of that lens. Given the weather around the country, I'd guess that Dave is right on the source, as it has been cold enough to delay nesting and hatching.
