..it was hot today in CA, the bees were out...I am thinking that this is almost full size, maybe a radical crop to emphasize the bee...or maybe a different frame

I'll bet you used a point for focus and exposure on the darker bee. It got the bee just super. Next time shoot an underexposed image as well to eliminate the hot bright areas. You can the blend them in PS. Jim
