Hey Sean, truly stunning images. Your technical understanding of photography is obviously incredible, after reading through your tutorials & techniques, to say nothing of the artistic side of things, which is also beautiful. When you say taken from different camera angles in the images that are stitched, is the camera just moved on the ball head in the same tripod position, then do you work with perspective to straighten things up ? Also the sharpness is truly phenomenal, after looking through this gallery when I go back to mine it's live going from DVD to and old TV set with no cable :-) . . . anyway, beautiful work and thanks for the time you put into explaining things on the www.cambridgeincolour.com site. These are the most impressive scenic photographs i have seen on Pbase. I don't know how you learned this technique, but you truly have it mastered. Among my favorites were Open Passage, Spring Coffin, Stone Curves, Johns and Trinity, and Queens trees just to name a few, but i could list about 20 more that were just as amazing. This gallery gives me an idea of how much i don't know about photography. I will come back often so keep posting.

dear sean, I'm having a prctice about night photography. I wonder how do you measure exposure time when it go beyond 30 second (just like my camera, I'm using EOS 400D, it has 30 second long exposure time before BULB), do you use light metering instrument (sorry for miss-calling this) Thank you very much I love this gallery, every photograph is like in the dream, please keep taking photo like these continuously.

This is a mind-blowing gallery. Inspiringly beautiful photos taken combined with some brilliant technical know-how. If you have time, I'd be grateful for a mini-lesson on how you combined shots to create panoramas and blend two or more aperture settings to ensure such extraordinary depth of field. I've tried using layers and Photomerge in Photoshop, but I haven't had much success. Anyway, really outstanding work. I'm impressed AND envious! -- Jim

For all those that are unsure of which camera they need .... or which new lens , might I suggest that if you ever get to this level of recording light, mood, space and colour .... then and only then do you deserve to require/need anything else ..... if only that such a collection can be preserved in a quality that matches its efforts. kci

Clean and balanced compositions, and spot-on exposures. Very nice. Good job on the post-process compositions and stitching of the images at different focal planes. If at some point, you do not mind sharing the details of this process such as software used (Photoshop, CaptureOne, etc.) and tripod/panning-head used for the project it will be interesting and educating for the visitors. Thanks, Duncan. I have since removed that image as I completely agree-- it does not fit in with the message and style of this gallery. I had actually had a discussion about the "River Mist" in the past and decided to see if anyone else left a comment about it, which you now have. This helped me make my decision and criticisms like this are very helpful in making me more aware of the overall image that is perceived by others.

The art of the critique, unless executed competently, tends to reveal more about the author than of the image itself. A fine gallery and on my favourites list. I'm not sure the cone in the last image suits the series. I understand why it's there (both photographically and from the students point of view), but I feel it is out of place here, especially as it comes as the last image left in your minds eye upon leaving the gallery.

Dear Sean, Excellent work. What an inspiration. My daughter is seven years old; together we are writing a story in word to help her computer skills. The story is set 12 years from now where she is a University graduate just walking into the college after parking her Ferrari in the student car park. Anyway, she wanted to see some pictures of a University, and as I know Cambridge, I did a search on Cambridge University Photos and your site came up. As I said before, what an inspiration, having seen and studied each picture, my daughter now wants to go there for real. Hi, Sean McHugh, The first time we here, without reading the poem pasted by Dennis, your photos reminded me of Shakespeare, and I also felt that the color was somehow too strong and romantic, maybe too saturated. The second time, I read the poem, and then I have a new feeling about both the lines and images. Dennis was quite right, they just fit each other so well that I suddenly fell in love with them both. It's amazing that such luxuriant color can create extremly quiet and a little bit sad atmosphere... "Saying Good-bye to Cambridge Again" is the most famous one of his pieces, and it let us feel that the images are all belong to the past, or something will soon leave us. So, sometimes, the more luxuriant and romantic it is, the more bittersweet feeling it brings. Thank you so much, Sean McHugh, and Dennis Lee! it's my first time reading this poem in English. Likyin

Thanks for the helpful feedback. I completely agree about the human figures. Once I've accrued enough "people photos," I plan on creating an additional gallery with a slightly different overall mood. The current gallery is primarily composed of night and twilight shots, so people in the background would be blurred.

Sean, I like your pictures very much. When i mentioned using filters before was an honest mistake, as for me tools are tools be filters camera or any graphic oriented software. Any program is just a BIG filter in itself, i do my work in PhotoShop,Photopaint,Paint Shop Pro, PhotoBrush and/or Painter so i don't see anything wrong in using every tool available for attaining certain goal. I made an honest question with no harmful intention whatsoever. I'm sorry if that caused you any trouble. Congratulations on your work, keep it up. You're in my 'favorite artists' list. Regards

Sean: absolutely AMAZING photography!! I am highly interested in multiple exposure photography and increasing the dynamic range and focal length of cameras. You seem to have a solid grasp on both, doing things I had never thought of (multiple identical shots averaged to remove noise?!). Can you explain what you mean by "two REGISTERED exposures"? Is that simply keeping the fstop, speed, and EV identical? Also, what software do you use to stitch photographs together to make panoramics?
