I found in my fathers things 3 cartoons The Dudes,The Dignified Cutups and The Lord of the Manor. all by JR Williams. I don't want to get rid of these until I know if they are worth anything. Is there anything you can tell me. I would appreciate any information that you can give me. Thanking you in advance.

I see you're still at it with the camera after nearly 30 years. One of life's ironies is that my superiors at work are from India and Bangladesh while you're living in India. Went to Gujarat in 2005. India and her people are photogenic. I hope to get back there again sometime but work and family will preclude that possibility for long time.

I JUST PURCHASED 2 BOXES FULL OF JR WILLIAMS COMIC STRIPS. I HAVE PROBABLY 3 OR 4 DIFFERENT TITLES. I AM INTERESTED IN SELLING IF I CAN FIND SOMEONE INTERESTED. THEY ARE IN GOOD CONDITION EXCEPT FOR THE YELLOWING OF THE PAPER.

I have a copy of the Denys Wortman book you have featured. It too is signed and illustrated with a personal note to the person he gave it too, that person was my neighbor from many years ago. Is there any interest in this book? It was eerie when I saw the inscription and sketch on your web page - it made me take it down from the shelf.

A friend commented on my macabre sense of humor today, which put me in mind of an old cartoon. As a matter of random curiousity I typed Gahan Wilson I paint what I see into Google and your site popped up on the first page of search results. I noticed that your user name is csw62. Since my initials are also csw, I thought that was worth a comment.

Hello,

I am really curious about the Limited, Signed Edition of "Peter Arno's Circus." I cannot find any reference, anywhere, of its price, of it ever being sold, or even offered for sale for that matter. Could you help?

It was great to see the info on Bill Hume! His cartoons of Japan and "Babysan" were the best! This from a sailor who was there in the late 1950's.

Again, I heard it first from Hume. At lunch yesterday he told me the photo was posted, and obviouisly was very pleased about it. A little further info about that painting behind him -- it's my favorite of his paintings. It was done as a spoof of the flower children of the 60s, and was very popular among that group when he exhibited it in a local show.

Mr. Wheeler,
While I don't know you at all, I'm very interested in the fact that you know about C.W. Anderson's work. Many of the horse portraits, done in charcoal, were done on my grandfather's property in the 1940's. As a result, I have a few originals myself. There is one, that my mother will never let anyone have is "The Prettiest". That is a frontal drawing of the last horse she ever had, of which she was very attached.
I find it ironic that I have taken 5 works of his to reframe just today, and I was wondering if the high cost was worth it. Now I know it is true. One was orignally framed in 1949. The other four stood in a portfolio until I begged for them in the late 1980's. My family still has the rest, I was just able to snag 4. I believe the portfolio still contains another 12-14 drawings of horses.

What a delight to find Bill Hume included in your site. In fact, he told me this morning that he had run across the site himself and plans to contact you. He's 90 now, doing very well, living in Columbia, MO. We visit a couple times a week. I worked with him for many years before retirement.

I have found to be in the possession of a signed book of "Cartoons of the Great War by Mac" I was wanting some information on this book and it's origination.

I came to your site via a search for the cartoonist Stine. What a treasure trove you have! I was going through the cartoonists and I've had the luck to meet some of them through my job. I enjoyed it throughly. I would like to put a link of your site up on my blog:http://artslaveangst.blogspot.com/

Hello Chris,
With a certain regularity i go to your cartoon collection. What a impressive amount of great books! I myself collect also cartoon books (only the ones il like). My favourites are Sempé and Saul Steinberg.. From this two artists i want to have everything, and i am nearly at that point. I saw a couple of Sempé book i'm still missing.
What i want to know is how it comes that you have so many books whith personal comments or special drawings. And i think it is a shame that you have only one book of Steinberg!!! (or don't you like his work so much?)
Okay Chris, i will e-mail you two photo's later,
all the best,
Michiel (the Netherlands)

Thank you, Dan! No, I'm not a cartoonist, but I suppose I like a good laugh as much as anyone. Or perhaps they appeal to my short attention span. Or maybe its simply the combination of words and pictures that just gels for me (for a whole other area of fascination, see my galleries on another form of words and pictures: road signs). Thanks for checking in!

What a wonderful collection of new and old cartoon books, covers and other pieces! What drew you to collect cartoons in this way? Are you a cartoonist? Dan

Thank you, George. I've sent you an email.

Wish I had met your site sooner. I'm over the hill now and someone will be liquidating my own accumulation of books, drawings, and morgue in general. Some of the things I see in the background of your display would make the lady at Ohio State U. look up. When you get the portrait page into a manageable copy I want one. I guess I just long for the free-lance days. I must ask Do you have any stuff about/on Bill Holman & Smokey Stover?

disclosure: i am this fella's brother in law

lots of these protest sign galleries either seem to take photos of every sign at the march, or have no sense of humor. you've been selective, have a great eye for the gems, and still manage to shoot gobs of these things!

i am not sure how effective these things are as tools of political dissent, but they sure crack me up. anyone who brings a real live toilet seat to a political protest deserves to have his picture on the internet.
