It's Hip to Be Square

Photographs in this gallery were created with the Rolleiflex film camera, a twin lens reflex, then scanned into my computer. The size of the negative/slide is 2.25 inches x 2.25 inches (6x6cm). It's akin to having a multi-megapixel digital camera, and it is four times larger than a 35mm negative or slide.

Not all of the pictures in this gallery are square. The beauty of the square format and the twin lens reflex is that it allows for cropping of the photograph, without having to turn the camera in a horizontal or vertical orientation.

A very inspiring gallery! I love the square format even though I have never shot it. Maybe I will pick up a used tlr and give it a try.

Your photographs are awesome. The lighting, composition, and mood is perfect. I recently drove across country, and wanted to shoot more Route 66 themed stuff, but my time schedule was tough to really do what I wanted. But I did get a few shots: http://www.pbase.com/sewardstphoto/nature

Great gallery. I especiall liked the shots of the abandoned Airstream trailer and the towers of Amboy. I worked at that salt mine while on college summer break (not once but twice). Thanks for the memories! Chuck
