D3X_100macro_f11iso80NX2adj.jpg

This picture was taken a week after the original shoot, replacing the instrument carefully in place and comparing the lighting with a print from the Canon shot. The powers of the softboxes had been noted. It's not a 100 per cent copy of the original setup but it would be difficult to get closer. I have not tried to arrange the details identically, this at least makes it clear things may be slightly differently placed. The 100mm VR macro Nikon was focused on the end of the fingerboard/strings as with the other shots, and the image was processed to Standard look defaults. The D3X is slightly more sensitive than the 5D MkII at a nominal ISO 100, but the MkII has better shadow detail. To match the images, the Lo-0.3 setting bracket of the D3X was used (ISO 80), with 20 Shadow Protection (matches the shadows to the 5D MkII) and 20 Highlight Protection (ensures the right level in the white areas of the rosin spatter).
