Top 40 is "50" Commemoration

On Friday, June 11th, 2004 a commemorative gathering was held in Kansas City, Mo., to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Top 40 radio, as introduced on Storz Stations WTIX, New Orleans, and WHB, Kansas City, both in 1954. Senator Bill Armstrong of Colorado, the 1st disc jockey and program director in Top 40 radio at WTIX, was the keynote speaker. Senator Armstrong went on to own his first radio station, KOSI in Denver, at age 21. He later owned 2 radios stations, 3 TV stations, two newspapers and numerous other enterprises including a real estate company employing 750. In his spare time from these endeavors, he entered Colorado politics, then served 3 terms as U. S. Representative from Colorado, and 2 terms as United States Senator from Colorado. Senator Armstrong helped author the Reagan tax reform legislation of the early 80s.

Not bad achievements for a teen age disc jockey from Fremont, Nebraska.
