Back Bay

The neighborhood gained its name because the area was, in fact, before it was filled in literally the "Back Bay" for Boston. The Back Bay neighborhood was created when the parcel of land was created by filling the tidewater flats of the Charles River from 1857-1882. Culturally speaking, Back Bay is a wealthy neighborhood and home to many boutiques and restaurants; Newbury Street is often called "Boston's Rodeo Drive".
