A fountain by American artist Kiki Smith on the campus of the
University of California, San Diego.
This is the view from the back, with the sun blazing down in front of the sculpture.
Smith's fountain features a female figure standing, arms open,
on top of a 12-foot-high column cast from the mold of a dead eucalyptus
tree Smith found on campus. Water flows gently from her lower arms and hands,
splashing onto a base of pale stones.
Smith uses the form to call attention not to an individual,
but to the human body in general, questioning what is concealed and revealed,
celebrated and censored in daily life.
