Day 4 guarding the passage

First of three views of Green Hill Fort on Thursday Island. This was built during the Crimean War in the late 19th century to guard the best shipping passage between islands across the Torres Strait against Russian invasion (!!).
The land across the passage is Prince of Wales Island, area 20,000 ha, current population c. 20.

Interesting to see this old fort! Must say the island with 20 inhabitants sounds like my kind of place! V
