Good afternoon: I just saw a beautiful yellow butterfly on my butterfly bush. How lovely! I punched in "WV Butterflies" and eventually I got your website and had it identified as a Yellow Swallowtail. All that I needed and more! You have wonderful photos are tremendously talented. Thank you, Don from Martinsburg.

Thank you for these pictures, I took a picture of a flower this spring and didn't know what it was or where to find information. Thank you that I found it on your site.

Hi Donna.
Just bookmarked your site. A great place to come back to over and over again, relax with a drink, and just browse for a while. Looking into the incredible galleries is a great way to relax and refresh.

Thanks so much Kathy for looking and your kind comments. I wish you had left an email address so I could contact you. This is a very small world, I lived in Stuart, FL for over 35 years...so yes, I understand exactly what you mean!

Donna,

It was so nice to see your beautiful galleries of W.VA. I am from Princeton, W.Va. My favorite time is fall in the W.Va. mountains. My beautiful daughter loved the majestic finery the mountains offered in fall. She passed away at the age of 23 with cancer. 5 years have passed since she was here to enjoy the scenery. I always think of her when I see them. Thanks for helping pass a rainy, windy gloomy day in FL (Vero Beach, we are experiencing Ernesto right now) in a better state of mind. She would have loved your work.
Thanks
Kathy

Donna
Thanks for your visit. Yes, I got a new camera (Canon 30D)and a new lens: Sigma 150
so now I have no excuses for not producing excellent images. My butterfly shots are mostly at Conservatories in Niagara Falls and Cambridge. Since Summer is so short here and we have limited species of butterflies, I find this is a good way to do it.

By the way, can I ask which Photoshop you use? Elements Photoshop CS?
Thanks

Ashley

Just wanted to let you know that I have enjoyed your pictures. I was searching the net trying to figure out what the strange birds in my backyard were and thanks to your photos of the Towhees I now know!

Hi Donna, An interesting gallery to brouse. You have great shots of flora and fauna. Although I have the same birds here in New England I have seen only 2 or three of your wild flowers.
Great photos !!! jack

Hi Donna, any suggestions for photographing West Virginia in January and February. I'm wanting to take some winter photos with snow. Don't know much about your state, but plan on taking some weekend trips. Thanks for any help. Carol

Hi Dennis, I am not the same Donna Race as the artist who designs cross stitch patterns. Thanks for the inquiry (and the compliment).
Dennis Stafford 23-Dec-2005 19:46
Hello Donna -
My mother-in-law has a georgeous cross stitch pattern by Dimensions Gold that indicates you are the artist. It is a beautiful piece showing Santa on a 12-cent postage stamp. She is wondering what the age is of the postage stamp. I am thinking that it was not ever really a postage stamp, rather simply a creation of your imagination (and a wonderful one at that). Am I correct, or is this really from a US Postage stamp, and if so what year??
Thanks,
Dennis

Hello, My daughter has been working on a Spring Flower Book for her Science class. Your website has been a blessing. I've been able to look up most of her scientific names, and common names. Out of all the sites I have looked at yours has been far better, most don't have pictures, only a paragraph of the flower. Please keep up the good work on your pictures, I'm sure some other students will need it. By the way, we live in WV, and I seen alot of pictures from WV. Thanks again, Bee

Thank you Karen...you have no idea how much this comment means to me.

BTW, our feeders are less than a foot from the windows now...no more crashes, just occasional harmless bumps. :)
Karen Stuebing04-Jan-2005 00:22
Thanks, Donna, for all these wonderful images from WV and all the work you've done identifying the different species.

They are all works of art.

Btw, I read an article Sunday in the Bluefield Daily Telegraph about bird crashing into glass windows. Aside from destruction of habitat, it is the second cause of death for them. They were talking about tall office buildings with glass windows.

I know you mentioned you had this problem.

The only hint they had for local people that wouldn't interfere with photography was to hang the bird feeders either 3 feet away, too close to do damage, or 30 feet away, the bird will probably realize it's a reflection.

Why thank you so much Ted! I simply love this camera!!! My first was a Dimage V, absolutely no comparison, although it was remarkable when it first appeared.

YOu are doing a great job with the C2100. That was my first real digital camera. I love that camera. I was taking photos of Life in NYC after 9/11 with that camera. I was going to take off of work on 9/11 to take my new camera to take photos at the WTC> I decided to go to work instead
