Because I can now show many more pictures of the naval of maritime museum, I just show pictures of the military museum here. I keep the old address name (including a spelling error in military) in place because people have linked to it. The museum houses a fine collection of military objects. A special attraction of the military museum are the concerts by the Mehter, the band of the Janisary that would, a bit like the Scottish pipers, scare the enemy out of their wits.

ASKERİ MÜZE MÜZESİ

Askeri Müze’de, seferdeyken padişah ve onun yardımcılarının kaldığı büyük çadırlar (otağı) var. Deniz Müzesi’nde ise, İstanbul’dayken padişahı taşımak için kullanılan sandallar sergileniyor. Geçmişte, yeniçerilerin askeri bandosu olan ve İskoç gaydacılar gibi, düşmanları korkutan Mehter Takımı’nın verdiği konserler de askeri müzenin hoş bir özelliği.

Hallo Dick,

Toen ik in 1989 in het militair museum was, waren daar in een halfverduisterde ruimte ook een zeer grote verzameling kostuums uit de tijd van de sultans. Van de hoogste minister tot de waterdrager van de sultan, ieder had zijn eigen kostuum.
Ik zie niets daarvan op jouw fotoserie, zijn ze er nog wel?
Vond het toen erg sprookjesachtig.

De Mehter trad toen buiten op.

Verder prachtige foto's die veel herinneringen oproepen aan een aantal reizen in Turkije

The best site I have seen on this topic. One posted comment states ''I would love to get a couple of nice photos of the Turkish gatling gun, they were made in Austria by Paget.'' To this I add, when visiting the military museum I noticed 16th century canon on displau outdoors, bearing the salamander emblem of France's king,
Francis the first who was the only Eruopean ally of Turkey at that time.

I am still trying to get some photographs of the Turkish Gatling guns made by Paget in Austria.
So far, I have had no luck.
In your email to me 14 months ago you said that you saw them in the muesum, but the lighting was poor, and you did not have a flash.
When you return to Turkey is there any way possible for you to get some photos of a Paget made Gatling, and it's makers plate?
If this is not possible do you have a contact there that could possibly help me?
I need these photographs of the gun and makers plate so I can reproduce one. Here in the United States there is really no information or drawings of Gatlings except those made by Colt.
