People would often advice me to go to Ordu, whenever I told them I was heading for the Black Sea coast, and I have been there twice. Those of you who took the trouble to look at more then one picture of mine must have noticed that a city for me should have a heart, with old houses or at least beautiful modern architecture. The older the better seems to be the rule. Well, Ordu was founded it the 18th century, AD that is. The restored Armenian basilica must be from that period. It’s nice, and about all that’s old that I could find.

There had been a town here earlier, and as a matter of fact Xenophon left here with what was left of his ten thousand, for Herakleia. But the people moved in the 14th century to Bayramli (Eskipazar, Old Market), where there seem to be some ruins to prove it. But because so many people consider Ordu a nice city I thought I ought to show at least some pictures. I myself prefer Ünye, somewhat farther to the West.

ORDU

İnsanlara ne zaman Karadeniz’e gittiğimi söylesem bana genellikle Ordu’ya gitmemi tavsiye ederlerdi ve oraya iki defa gittim. Birden fazla resmime bakma zahmetine katlananlarınız, benim için bir şehirde eski evlerin ya da en az ından güzel modern mimarinin olduğu bir merkezin olması gerektiğini anlamışsınızdır. Ne kadar eskiyse o kadar iyi olduğu benim için bir kural gibi. Ordu, 18. yüzyılda kurulmuş, yani milattan sonra. Restore edilmiş Ermeni kilisesi bu dönemden kalmış olmalı. Güzel bir kilise ve eskiyle ilgili bulabildiğim tek şey.

Burada önceden bir ilçe varmış doğrusu Xenophon, onbininden geri kalanı Herakleia için burada terketmiş. Ama insanlar, bunu kanıtlayacak türden harabelerin bulunduğu Bayramlı’ya (Eskipazar) 14. yüzyılda gelmişler. Çok fazla insan Ordu’nun güzel bir şehir olduğunu dü şündüğünden en azından birkaç resim göstermem gerektiğini düşündüm. Ben batıdan biraz daha uzak olan Ünye’yi tercih ederim.
