I had not “done” this valley (in Turkish: Güvercinlik Vadisi) for some years, and though I knew there were some pitfalls on my first try I made a mistake I had made earlier, starting in the wrong valley from Uçhisar. I struggled for quite a while, until I had to give up and climb out in shame. I decided to try again a bit later, and this time did not start in Uçhisar itself, but on the way leading to it from the Ürgüp – Nevşehir road. More specifically: from the point where all tourist busses stop to enable tourists a view of the valley, some will even descend and walk a few hundred meters. I went the whole stretch, it ends in Göreme, and I include some pictures from walking on to Cavuşin, an inland road. There is a point that I will described where, again and again, I knew I could not go on remaining level with the valley ground, but had to take a high road, and yet repeatedly, over the years tried just that, and each time risked breaking my neck. I will later add a caption to the pictures of that point. But now first the series of one of the finer walks in Cappadocia.
