Svartifoss plunges down the over a spectacular basalt columnar wall. Such hexagonal columns are formed inside halted lava flows that cools extremely slowly,
which again causes crystallization to appear. The waterfall resides some 20 min walk upstream from Bölti inside Skaftafell NP.
The NP also embraces a great portion of the Vatnajökull glacier, and covers a total of 4807 km².
