The upper part of the long winding canyon downstream Dettifoss.
The river "Jökulsá á Fjöllum" has carved out a 25 km long canyon called Jlökulsárgljufúr, which holds the waterfalls Dettifoss/44m, Selfoss/11m and Hafragilsfoss/27m.
The Jlökulsárgljufúr NP now protects it all, covering 120 km² along the canyon, and the three waterfalls are now designated as national monuments.
