Fujifilm FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750EXR: “Zoom” and “Speed” in compact body

January 5, 2012

Fujifilm has set new standards this year for digital compact cameras with the launch of the FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750EXR. The FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750EXR redefine what's possible with a small camera thanks to their enviable specification and 20x optical zoom lens. In addition to the wide-reaching zoom range, the FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750EXR also boast an improved 16-megapixel EXR-CMOS sensor, enhanced GPS functionality and stylish design touches, yet the dimensions of the body have remained small. With such a powerful performance in a pocket-sized package, these new cameras will give both families and regular travelers the perfect camera to capture a huge range of photographs.

EXR CMOS — Flexible and versatile image sensor

Fujifilm's unique EXR-CMOS sensor has evolved even further. The EXR Auto, which automatically optimizes settings according to scene types, has now been expanded to offer 103 different shooting patterns. The FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750EXR both use the improved EXR-CMOS sensor, which pushes the camera's low-light capabilities even further. By re-shaping the photo diodes, the EXR-CMOS sensor displays a 30% reduction in digital noise over the previous version at high ISO settings. This means that users can capture great detail in low-light scenes without resorting to flash, while being confident that noise won't spoil the ambient light effects. Its unique construction allows it to change its characteristics according to the lighting conditions. Users can select High Resolution (HR) Priority for the best possible picture quality, Wide Dynamic Range (DR) Priority for scenes with high contrast or High Sensitivity and Low Noise (SN) Priority for great results in low light, or leave the camera to make its own choice by selecting the EXR AUTO mode.

Maximum zoom, minimum size

The bodies of the FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750EXR are the smallest yet still capable of housing a 20x optical zoom lens in the world*1. The 25 - 500 mm focal range (equivalent to a 35 mm camera) found in both cameras enables users to tackle a vast range of subjects from wide-angle landscapes through to tightly cropped wildlife pictures. The wide zoom range capability is due to the newly designed Double Sliding Lens System that features two additional lens elements within the optical construction to extend the zoom capabilities and boost image resolution. In addition to the 20x optical zoom, the FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750EXR also benefits from Fujifilm's Intelligent Digital Zoom feature which effectively doubles the focal range. This means that users get a maximum telephoto setting of 1000 mm*2, to pull in even the most distant objects. Thanks to clever image processing, the Intelligent Digital Zoom feature doesn't affect image quality in the same way as a conventional digital zoom function, so users can be confident that image quality will remain the same even when the lens is zoomed out to the maximum focal length.

Speed so you never miss a moment

The FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750EXR have also been given additional enhancements over its predecessor, making it even better to use. The FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750EXR have been optimized for faster start-up. Turn the power ON and they are ready to shoot in only 1.5 seconds. In addition, shot-to-shot take very short time (minimum 0.8 second and 1.0 second respectively). The AF speed has been as little as 0.16 seconds, helping users lock onto their subjects in a flash. The FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750EXR are always ready.

A landmark in GPS functionality (FinePix 770EXR only)

Travelling photographers, or those simply wanting to pinpoint their global location, will benefit from the FinePix F770EXR's improved GPS functionality. A new high sensitivity antenna finds positioning quickly.
This new model now include Route Log, where the camera creates an illustrated map showing where you've travelled and Photo Navigation, where the distance from and direction to a previous location are displayed. Record and edit your favorite places in the camera with the new MY Landmark function. Also included in these models is the Landmark Navigator feature, which behaves in two different ways according to how the camera is held. In both cases, the FinePix F770EXR will indicate nearby landmarks and the distance the user is away from them. Hold the camera upright for normal picture taking and you'll see the name of the nearest landmarks — and the distance to it. Point the lens towards the ground and the LCD converts to a radar view to show locations relative to where the user is standing. Both functions are ideal for those photographers keen to see all the famous places a location has to offer.

Powerful features for stills and video capture

In addition to offering a powerful zoom lens, the FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750EXR have a full set of features that allow users to take full control of their picture taking. Whether you want the simplicity of point and shoot photography or a greater level of control over aperture and shutter speed, the FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750EXR has the features required. Output from the internal flash has also been boosted, with subjects up to 3.7 m away now within reach, while for those preferring to shoot with just ambient light, ISO's up to 12,800*3 are available. The F770EXR also contains the option of a RAW file format for unaltered files and has continuous shooting at up to 11 fps (Image size M only) for action shots. The FinePix F770EXR and FinePix F750 both also offer 1080p Full HD movie recording at 30 fps with stereo sound, which is perfect for playing back on a HD ready TV. High Speed movies can be recorded at up to 320 fps and all movie modes now come with face tracking AF, which ensures that faces stay sharp and correctly exposed even when the subject is moving. Even if a focus-locked subject moves within the frame, the camera will keep the focus on part of the subjects face for continuous on-focus tracking.

Better handling for great results

Along with specification upgrades, the FinePix F770EXR and the FinePix F750EXR also have some key handling improvements to help make picture taking even more enjoyable. On the front of the camera, an ergonomic, rubberized handgrip*4 ensures users can get a firm hold and gives extra stability when shooting at the extreme telephoto length. The top-plate, meanwhile, has the same angled mode dial from the F600EXR for simple selection of exposure modes, but now has the addition of a Function (Fn) button for faster access to regularly accessed features including ISO setting, Film simulation and so on. On the back of the camera, the 3-inch LCD shows images and menus with great clarity thanks to the 460,000 dots LCD, but now also benefits from Monitor Sunlight mode that makes the screen easier to see in bright lighting conditions.
The cameras also have Advanced Anti-Blur mode, in which the camera takes four continuous shots at high sensitivity, and merges them with an advanced image processing technology to correct the effects of vibration. This helps produce images that are less noise and vibrations caused by shaky hands even in hand-held shooting at night in poor lighting conditions or at long zoom.

The FinePix F770EXR will be available in black, red, blue, white and gold finishes The FinePix F750EXR is available in black, red and blue.
