Cold Day, Warm Sun

These eagles were perched in the local 'eagle tree' enjoying the only sunshine we'd seen for awhile. Eagles don't have any sweat glands and to cool themselves, they open their mouths and pant. They'll also hold their wings out from their sides to let the cool breeze get closer to their hot 107 degree F (42 degrees C) body. However, knowing how cold it was on this day I'm convinced they were holding their wings out to absorb some of the sunshine to warm themselves up!
