Great site Gail. I learned quite a bit about my new xsi from reading the chapters and your experiences with the camera. I have the is kit lens and the 55-250 is as well. I like the look and feel and all of the features of this camera. However, I tried very, very hard to get good, sharp pictures with it. I don't think it is as good as many sites say it is. I paid a lot of money for the camera here in Canada and would not have done it if I had known it is so difficult to get consistent photos from it. However, I am stuck with it and try to use it as much as I can. The camera was a bit on the pricy side, but has a lot of great features. To anyone buying an entry level SLR Canon camera, I strongly suggest buying the XS model which is very similar, for a lot less money (200 dollars or more). It is astounding and a current reality that many point and shoot cameras have out-of-the-box photos of excellent quality, offer super zoom and shot-after-shot accuracy, many producing far better photos tahn the xsi.

Hi Gail

I followed the link on Canon EOS-forum where you gave a comment on my postings yesterday. We have the same cameras, TZ3, FZ18 and now the EOS 450D.

Your page is really useful for me, alot of great picture but even more important, your blog postings. We even seem to have the same lenses, I'll keep an eye on this blog for the future. And I must say I really enjoyed your photos.

Greetings from Eva, Norway

Hi Gail- I read your comment inth DP Forum about AIAF...
"So, to get the most accurate focus, you need to get out of the XSi's Basic Zonei. In Creative Zone the user can select from three AF modes: One Shot, AI Focus or AI Servo."

I came up with the same conclusion, and so I ask.. if a user wants to take some quick shots, using Basic Zone, images may not be best quality? Hmm, if this is true, not very useful for the less experienced user.

PS- I appreciated your blog on digicamhelp website, as I am deciding on Nikon D60 or Canon xSi.

Regards, Judy

Hi Pete, thanks for the kind words. Glad you found the blog helpful. I honestly don't know what to advise about the adapter, since I've never used one. Ask at the Nikon Talk forum and I know you'll get plenty of good advice there. Enjoy your camera!

Hi Jeff,

I am SO glad you found my 5400 blog helpful. It's so very nice of you to take some time to let me know.

The majority of photos were taken with my 5400 such as the Florida Scrub, Ireland (except 03 photos), Hurricane and NRC galleris. You can verify this by viewing the available full EXIF data under each image.

A number of the more recent photos were taken with my FZ3; a few snapshots of my grandson taken with the Canon A510, a great little digicam which I gave to my daughter.

A very few other photos were taken some time ago with Fujifilm FinePix 1400 and 2400 cameras; plain, old and simple by today's standards, but they sure did take good pix.

I've been so busy that I haven't taken many images lately.

As an aside, I recently bought a new computer and went from a CRT to LCD monitor. Some of the images, as far as post-processing is concerend, do not look as well on my LCD so please keep that in mind if you view them with a LCD. I had no idea there was such a difference between a CRT and LCD.

When you have some 5400 photos online, let me know. I'd love to take a look.

Thanks again.

Hi Gail,

Your info on the Nikom coolpix 5400 was very helpful!! Although I had bought Before
reading Digicamhelp and your helpful posts!! I love photography and own a Nikon FE
camera!! (film based) I also know what I wanted in a a camera which in this case a lens that has a wide angle zoom lens which the 5400 provideed and When I saw that there was a $200 rebate , I quickly researched the camera as much as possible! I was constantly checking out all the digicams and what their features are and almost Most lack the 28mm lens I desired until I learned about he 5400!! The camera has a very solid feel to it!!
But i didnt like that it had a small lcd monitor! As you know about cameras, there are some things you like about one camera but wish it had this and that on it! Hence compromises has to be made! I DID get to read some of the pros and cons of this camera from other sites about this camera!! Still, having bouhgt the camera for less than a month, I am still learning what it can do and how to work with it!!
I WOULD like to know which pics you took in your gallery is taken by what camera!!
Of course, more specificully , the 5400!! I did read David Chin's blog as well and it was also very helpful!!!

Hopefully I may have some nice pics to post!!!

thanks,

jeff

Gail. Thanks for the little nuggets of info on the Nikon CP 5400 on both the DPReview forums and blog. It's a great resource for me as I also use the same camera.
