Aug '04 - Africa revisited (2nd trip)

We traveled to Africa again, this time to Namibia (Sossusvlei Dunes, Skeleton Coast, Etosha National Park) and then back to Zambia (North Luangwa Park, South Luangwa Park). And again, we loved every single minute on that continent ... the blue skies, the rocks and sands, the animals, the people. We are dreaming of going again as soon as we can ... our hearts are still there ...

We LOVED Kutandala ... I think it's probably our favorite safari camp in terms of the accomodations (simply wonderful bush camp ... such sweet simple bathrooms and sand floors!). And the owners are incredibly nice and the food is amazingly wonderful. The only thing that wasn't perfect for us, was not hearing hippos at night (there were no hippos on the Mwaleshi, where the camp is situated), and having only walking safaris (and therefore less wildlife). But, the walking safaris were really wonderful, and the owners have a great appreciation of the botany and animals (and birds!) that we DID see. And every day was interesting and relaxing and beautiful (we were there for 4 nights too). And, it was simply incredible to be so far out in the bush ... I loved that. There ARE tsetse flies, however they didn't seem to pose too much of a problem ... we only got about 15 bites each and they weren't that uncomfortable. When I complained about the flies, it was said that we should APPRECIATE them being there, since the fact that the flies are there, is why there is a national park (otherwise, it may have been turned into a cattle ranch years ago!). The owners should have a new baby this year (Guz was pregnant last August), and we really enjoyed meeting their first child, who was about 2, but was quiet and sweet and never an intrusion. We were just so impressed with this couple raising their children out in the bush like that!

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask. Sounds like you have a great trip planned!!! (this year we're only going to the Lower Zambezi, to save $ by staying in one locale).

Thank you for sharing your wonderful safari. Amazing pictures and such a nice variety of Namibia, North Luangwa and South Luangwa.

One of the places I visited last year was Kaingo, and I am scheduled to visit Kutandala this year. If you get this message will you please e-mail me to let me know what you thought of Kutandala. I am scheduled for 4 nights, along with 6 nights in South Luangwa (my 3rd visit to SL) and 4 nights in Lower Zambezi (my 2nd visit to LZ).
