We have several mature pin oak trees around our house. They give us shade in the summer and food for deer in the fall. When the heavy acorns drop on the roof it sounds like gun shots. On windy days it is best to wear a thick hat, if you venture outside. It hurts when the acorns hit your head or bare skin. Broken nutshells litter our deck and can cut bare feet when you step on them.
