We must all be related...Roelof Van Houten married Gerretje Van Nes son: Helmich Roeslos Van Houten married Jannetje Pieterse Merselise on OCT. 6, 1676. They had several children, one JACOB Helmich(Helmick) was a twin to Dirck. on DEC 14, 1684. Jacob is my relative and probably most of yours. We have family graves in Wadsworth and Doylestown, Ohio and some in Loundenville(Greer), OH I live in Doylestown, Ohio and the first settlers were Nicholas Helmick and his two sons.

My friend Bonnie and I rode down to the Helmick today. It was such a pretty fall day and now that the bridge has been restored it looks sooooo much better. It 's just sad that people have already started w/ the graffiti.

I am excited about the restoration of the Helmick. I take my nine year old daughter to the bridge to have pack lunches in the summer time. I hope that the people in Morgan County and the surrounding Counties will keep the restoration free from debris and spray paint. It is such a beautiful place and it deserves to stay that way!!

I am Gordy Callison, I draw both in pen and ink and watercolor. My forte is old grist mills and covered bridges that are close to each other. That's why I'm putting in my two cents here. Does anyone know where the original Helmick Mill was located in conjunction with the covered bridge or for that matter does anyone have a picture, drawing, etching ect of the Helmick Mill from the road or from the stream? This bridge is in serious need of a fix up.... I found this bridge one day in 1999 and make it a point to come back at least once a month...this is a beautiful area in the middle of no where....there are times i come down to relax and meditate.....it is awful that kids have trashed this place and i think that more needs to be done to make it beautiful again.... I will be the first one there volunteering my time to help clean it up.... please let me know if and when this could possibly happen and get back with me
