To get both the Heron and the Egret in focus in this image, I simply took two shots, the first focusing on the Egret and the second on the Heron. Then, I simply over-cloned the in-focus image of the Egret of the first shot over the out off focus image of the Egret of the second shot. Works well in this setting.
