A friend, who lives in the apartment complex that we moved to recently, rescued three monarch caterpillars he found on a milkweed that had been knocked down. This female was the first to hatch. The friend released it a few days ago in the park behind our apartment building. It stayed put on this swamp milkweed flower just long enough for us to get a few shots. Then it took off to the top of a tall tree. Yesterday he released the two remaining, both females too, but they took off immediately, so no pictures. This morning I found one of them foraging on a sumac bush and got some shots of it.
