I had just stepped outside our front door when I caught sight of this downy woodpecker, just feet from me in our neighbor’s front yard. He could be the same one I photographed last year when he was trying to peck a hole in the wrought iron fence. In any case, he didn’t want to pose, until for one brief second he turned his head, and I was able to get this shot.
