Message from Mateo Hevezi
Welcome to my personal page and photography archive at PBase.com.

I am an American-born independent artist, non-fiction writer, editor and instructor with 30+ years experience.

I am pleased to announce my own live cooking show called, "Friday with Mateo." It premiered January 3, 2020 (6pm Cambodia time).

I will still make photos, but teaching healthy cooking is also a big part of my life, and now I am sharing my recipes with the world online. My focus is on "Food as Medicine" and "Eat to Beat Disease."

Season 2 was cut short due to visa challenges in Vietnam's immigration system following CV19.

I have relocated to Cambodia and will resume Season 3 in 2024 once my kitchen is stocked, locked and ready to rock.

Please join me and ...LETS EAT!!!

COMING SOON TO CAMBODIA

My current solo exhibition is titled "AGNOSCO - Spirits Among Us." The AGNOSCO exhibition most recently showed at galleries in and around Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture in Japan. In 2020, I am planning to bring selections from the AGNOSCO exhibition -- a mixture of 55 color and B&W prints -- to art galleries in Vietnam.

In May 2000, I completed formal studies in New York at Syracuse University's Newhouse School Photojournalism, Photography and Journalism departments (2000). Currently I am based in Vietnam, although I am frequently in Thailand and Japan printing and producing work for future exhibitions. My first photography book is is titled, "Shot by a Marine: a photographic recollection of 18 years serving as a combat correspondent in the U.S. Marine Corps (1987~2005)." Shot by a Marine is in final stages of production and is targeted for publication in 2023.

Awards include:

Lou Lowery Award (1993) for photographs produced during the Los Angeles riots in 1992, where I was assigned to the 1st Marine Division (1/1) based in Compton, California.

Twice named Thomas Jefferson Award recipient for writing, photography and editing (1992, 2004).

Distinguished Performance Award (1992, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004).

Assignments and works outside America include: Mexico, Hawaii, Okinawa, Korea, Thailand, Japan, Micronesia, Iwo Jima, Tinian, Guam, Australia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Viet Nam. Future exhibitions include a cell-phone photography project and a presentation of photographs produced in 2013 during an NGO survey of ancient Egyptian tomb ruins in Kariong, Australia (Ugari).
