Tanglewood now holds a Jazz Festival every Labor Day, and last year I had a chance to see Dr. John and Wynton Marsalis headlining a show that they threw together originally as a benefit for New Orleans. John Pizarelli was among the other guests.

If you look carefully at the last pictures in the series, you can see that Dr. John has started boogeying behind the piano, and in one frame has lured Wynton into doing the same (but behind the piano). The young woman singer sang both jazz and rock, and was teriffic at both...they "discovered" her in New Orleans and invited her onto the tour on the spot.

Yes, I know it is terribly noisy. The shed was pitch-black with only one or two small overhead spots on the performers. With my slow Sigma 3.5/6.3 lens, the camera was so underexposed I just ignored the flashing "Lo" in the viewfinder. It is only thanks to Photoshop Elements and Neat Image Pro+ noise reduction software that there are any pictures at all. But for the memories and the gestalt of the evening all the "cleanup" was worth it.
