The Abyssinian Roller is a commonly found bird in arid savanna areas often perching conspicuously on top of small trees. A stunningly attractive colourful bird. These photos were taken in Waza National Park out of the minibus window.

Back in 1960 my mother rescued a roller from "the cooking pot" by buying the injured bird for the sum of about 6d.It found its way to the uk and although it could not fly due to its wing damage we had it for some 10 years.In the summer its favorite place was on the bird table were it would reach out and catch insects as they flew by.My Mum took him? she? to a local pet shop when it was visited by naturalist Peter Weir? he was amazed that it was surviving in the UK after being caught as a fully grown specimen.Asking how it made its way into the country my Mother just Smiled!
