I was in Delta Company 3/1 11th LIB. My CO was Capt Harry Sheppard. I dont remember exactly anymore, but think I arrived in Nam in Ja.n. 1970 I was drafted into being an RTO, for 3 months. Remainder of my time I was a 60 gunner, guess I got tired of being shot at quite a bit, and thought now Im going to return fire. My asst. gunner was killed along with another guy, Bill ? retrieving our trip wired Claymores. I was wounded later that same day, and eventually returned back to the states. I never talked much to anyone about the things we did and saw until recently. And then, it was my 2 sons and my wife.
Frank Hensley 09-Dec-2020 02:49
The 11th LIB patch & designation was still in use when I left in Oct 69. The Patch moved from a shoulder patch to a Pocket patch. In Feb '69 we were told that we were now the Americal and that was changed shortly to the 23rd Inf Div, That was from the bad press around some alleged massacre near by.

Also, On the large 11th LIB Patch by the Bde HQ, the word "Paranoid" was under that Patch as if it was its Nickname. Anyone else saw that???

George Horvath 07-Oct-2017 20:48
I am CSM, Retired George Horvath. I served in the 4th Bn, 21st Inf from January 1968 (Hawaii) through April 1969, Was a squad leader, the PSG and lastly as the assistant ops sergeant at Bn HQ. Our first CO was Capt Berry Gaszdick (not sure of the spelling). He got a DSC during the battle of Tam Ki and he was a A phenomenal officer and leader. I forget so many names, but I remember Bennie Lewis (KIA May 68), SSG Preston Rawlings, Boy I wish this old coot brain worked better. We had a hell of a Company and battalion having trained in Hawaii before deploying. Then the “infusion” program started and they ripped the guts out of the Battalion. Anyone out there remember that? Hope to see some response for anyone serving during that time.

I was an airman attached to the 11th Inf. at Duc Pho (LZ Bronco) from Feb. 68 to Feb 69.
Some of my army friends went down in a C-123 at Chu Lai; they put jet fuel in the recip engines. I am very interested in getting their names as I have a picture of all of us before the crash. I'm also trying to get the names of two soldiers who were killed when their jeep was blown up just outside the gate. I had just convinced a loadmaster to allow one of them to get on the plane because his tour of duty was over.

I was assigned as a medic to the 6th Sup. Bat. Co Cmed. on March 67. I was on the ambulance platoon. Shipped to Viet Nam on Dec. 67 on the general Weigel ( It was moth balled a couple of year ago), y older brother went to the Korean war on the Weigel, too. On Viet Nam we went to Carentan for a few weeks, then to LZ Bronco on Duc Pho. The first wounded I went to get was from the 4/3 and it happened that he was from Puerto Rico also.
