Murrays Bay - in winter
The palms are Phoenix canariensis, a species of flowering plant in the palm family Arecaceae, native to the Canary Islands.
It is a relative of Phoenix dactylifera, the true date palm.
The most used common name in English is Canary Island date palm.
In NZ we call them Phoenix Palms
