The Doors of San Miguel de Allende

Daily use and weathering has produced colors and textures in the doors of San Miguel de Allende which caught my eye. The worn and weathered wood, iron and earth tones of these entranceways told something of the history of the building and it's occupants. The stone threshold of many doors had been worn down by the soles of countless passing shoes. Layers of paint baked in the sun split and peeled to reveal the faded colors of paint selected by owners long past. Few doors here are actually "square" providing an interesting additional challenge to the photographer.

Other doors spoke of prosperity and a life of plenty with magnificent woodwork, polished brass and fresh paint. For those with a birthright or the financial means to enjoy it, central Mexico can be a paradise. Regardless of the social standing of the occupants, these remarkable doors are for me vivid reminders of this quaint colonial town.
