Here is a composite image of this Limber Pine taken on our various trips here. The reason you see so much of the root system is that an average of about a quarter inch of the rim soil is lost each year to erosion. That comes to about 2 feet of lost soil, and that looks like about how much of the root system is exposed here! Please note that if you come here to take a photo, stay behind the barriers as walking or standing next to the tree harms its roots!
