The French Market, "America's Oldest Public Market", has existed on the same site since 1791.
From the Native Americans who brought herbs and spices to African-Americans who brought coffee and pralines, the market has always been a popular trading post.
Spanish, French, Italian, German and Caribbean immigrants have all mixed and mingled here to give birth to New Orleans' unique culture.
