The figure of Blessed Virgin Mary of Passau was built in 1683 by Giuseppe Bellotti to commemorate King Jan III Sobieski's Vienna victory over the Turks.
In his work Bellotti was inspired by monument of Madonna from Passau, a town in Lower Bavaria (Germany).
It is the second oldest Warsaw monument (after the Zygmunt's Column).
