The Central Patio Well
Gaudí completely renovated the central patio well so that all areas would receive adequate illumination. He devised different systems to carry out this function: he installed various lucarnes on the walls that open out like mouths in order to receive zenithal light and he designed internal terraces on the lower floors of the house and put up glass walls on the staircase landings, which allowed the passing of light. In order that illumination in this area was equal at different heights, the walls were decorated with ceramic tiles whose shade of blue correspond to their position, with the darker ones nearer the skylight and the lighter ones positioned lower down.
